Laser aerosol distillation technique was used to investigate the synth
esis of samples of binary silicate systems MexOy-SiO2 (Me = Ti, Fe, Ni
, Cu) in an cw CO2 laser erosion torch. Formation of a boiling melt in
composite targets is discussed together with energy efficiency and ma
intenance conditions of the steady laser torch. The concentration of T
i ions in a grown sample was found as a function of their concentratio
n on the surface of the target.
