Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during 1986 and 1987 to study the che mical control of weeds in transplanted rice (Oryza sativa L.) at 2 loc ations under Kashmir conditions. The results indicate that butachlor f ormulation was closely followed by benthiocarb and hand-weeding (20 an d 30 days after transplanting) in reducing dry matter of weeds with av erage weed-control efficiency of 81.7 and 82.1% at Khudwani and Larnoo Stations respectively. Application of butachlor @ 1.5 kg ai/ha record ed 97.0 and 135.2% increase in the mean grain yield compared with unwe eded check, but was on par with a benthiocarb and hand-weeding (20 and 20 days after transplanting) treatments at Khudwani and Larnoo Statio ns respectively. The grain yield had a highly negative but significant correlation with dry weight of weeds during both the years at both th e stations.
