La. Ohlms et al., MALIGNANT LARYNGEAL TUMORS IN CHILDREN - A 15-YEAR EXPERIENCE WITH 4 PATIENTS, The Annals of otology, rhinology & laryngology, 103(9), 1994, pp. 686-692
Malignant laryngeal neoplasms in children are uncommon and present dia
gnostic and therapeutic challenges. A 15-year retrospective review of
laryngeal tumors at our institution identified four patients with mali
gnant neoplasms. These children, 7 months to 16 years of age, were tre
ated for squamous cell carcinoma, choriocarcinoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, a
nd primitive neuroectodermal tumor. This report details these cases,em
phasizing diagnostic approaches, treatment decisions (medical oncologi
c management, surgical resection), and rehabilitation measures for pos
tlaryngectomy communication. A multi-institutional pediatric head and
neck tumor registry would be a useful reference to assist with individ
ual treatment decisions.
