Abstract
The reactivity of trivalent chromium salts towards collagen, the princ iple protein in animal skins, was investigated in organic solvent medi a in the presence of lamb skins of controlled water content. The effec t of different factors, especially the nature of basifying agent, on t anning was studied in detail. Complete exhaustion of tanning baths wit h higher binding of chromium to skins was obtained in these media than in traditional aqueous media.
