F. Silvestre et al., REACTIVITY OF TRIVALENT CHROMIUM SALTS TOWARDS COLLAGEN IN ORGANIC-SOLVENT MEDIA - NATURE AND ROLE OF BASIFYING AGENTS, The Journal of the American Leather Chemists Association, 88(12), 1993, pp. 440-452
The reactivity of trivalent chromium salts towards collagen, the princ
iple protein in animal skins, was investigated in organic solvent medi
a in the presence of lamb skins of controlled water content. The effec
t of different factors, especially the nature of basifying agent, on t
anning was studied in detail. Complete exhaustion of tanning baths wit
h higher binding of chromium to skins was obtained in these media than
in traditional aqueous media.
