By interaction between 1,2-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)ethane, L, and
various, MX2 salts, adducts of composition (L)MX2 (M = Zn, Cd; X = 1,
Cl, Br, NO3, O2CCF3; M = Hg, X = 1, Cl), (L)2Mx2 (M = Zn, Cd, X = ClO
4; M = Zn, X = SO4CF3), (L)5[Cd(BF4)2]3 and L[HgBr2]2 have been obtain
ed. The compounds, stable in the solid state and in acetone solution,
but not in dimethyl sulphoxide, were characterized by analytical and s
pectral data (IR, H-1- and C-13 NMR), and by conductivity and molecula
r weight measurements. Ring mercuriation of L occurs when the ligand r
eacts in ethanol or diethyl ether with Hg(ClO4)2 or Hg(O2CCF3)2. The c
ompounds (pzH)2Hg(CN)2 and (pzH)2Hg(SCN)2 (pzH = 3,5-dimethylpyrazole)
were formed from the reaction of L with Hg(CN)2 and Hg(SCN)2, respect
ively.
