This paper presents a new method for determining the filterability per
formance of hydraulic fluids. The new test method uses an ASTM D 2882
rig. A comparison is made between the new test and two currently-accep
ted laboratory bench hydraulic filter tests. The results from tests on
ten different fluids are described. Often bench laboratory testing do
es not correlate with known field performance. The ultimate purpose of
this research is to provide a new filterability screen test that simu
lates field performance.
