Sp. Reyna, SOMETIMES TO BE LESS-THAN BRILLIANT IS BRILLIANT - AN ACCUMULATION OFLABOR APPROACH TO THE DOMESTIC MODE OF PRODUCTION, Man, 29(1), 1994, pp. 161-180
The argument of this article is in two parts. The first part documents
how the Barma of Chad had an objective structure, a domestic mode of
production, which exhibited a practical logic of labour accumulation.
The second part enters the realm of Barma subjectivity, showing how th
eir domestic mode of production became embodied in a practical sense t
hat disposed them to labour accumulation. The practical logic produced
by the practical sense reduced uncertainty, which meant that sometime
s to be less than brilliant, was brilliant.
