The author studies the stability of an equilibrium position under zero
gravity of a liquid set in a container of revolution when the free su
rface is a circular cylinder with the same axis, and its small oscilla
tions about this position. The problem is reduced to a functional equa
tion in a suitable Hilbert space. Using methods of functional analysis
, the author analysis, the author gives sufficient conditions of stabi
lity and proves the existence of eigenfrequencies.
