Abstract
Recently the discipline of finite-time thermodynamics has been used fo r analyzing the working of engines/refrigerators by incorporating more and more realistic factors. In the present paper, an attempt has been made to improve upon the usual assumption of instantaneous adiabats b y modelling the piston's speed equal to the speed of sound in the work ing fluid.
