The advantages of using biporous electrodes in water electrolyzers ins
tead of porous electrodes with a continuous pore-radius distribution a
re discussed. The problem is formulated by estimating the optimum valu
es for the three main parameters (radii of large and small pores and l
iquid porosity), which define the amount of the gas generated in a bip
orous electrode. A numerical estimate is given of the standard current
s and characteristic thicknesses of biporous electrodes.
