Abstract
The impacts of the values of phase shifts and the corresponding phase- shift positions (PSP) on the spontaneous emission spectra of a three-p hase-shift (3PS) distributed feedback (DFB) laser have been analyzed a t below threshold. Side-mode suppression of more than 25 dB is achieve d with a proper selection of phase shifts and their positions. The use of the transfer matrix method (TMM) in the analysis reveals promising potential for improving and optimizing the structural design of the 3 PS DFB lasers in both the below and lasing threshold applications.
