A technique for writing chirped-period UV by UV exposure in photosensi
tive optical fibres is reported. Results are presented for gratings pr
oduced in boron-germania codoped fibres, hydrogen-loaded high-germania
fibres, and hydrogen-loaded standard telecommuications fibres, with p
erformance parameters ranging from 99% reflectivity with 7.5nm bandwid
th, to approximately 5% reflectivity over >17nm bandwidth
