Radiolabelled cell cultures used in studies of lymphocyte proliferatio
n at the Clinical Research Centre are blotted in arrays of 10 x 6 spot
s spaced at 6 mm. A new detector has been designed to count the beta p
articles emitted from high energy radiolabels such as C-14 using point
anodes working within the cells of a brass collimator to count all 60
samples simultaneously. The cells are identified by a resistive reado
ut technique applied independently to each of the six rows of ten anod
es, and a compact data capture system provides economical readout into
a personal computer.
