The purpose of this paper is to present results from experiments that
have been performed to show the memory cycle time dependence of the so
ft errors produced by the interaction of alpha particles with dynamic
random access memory devices, with a view to using these as position s
ensitive detectors. Furthermore, a preliminary feasibility study being
carried out indicates the use of dynamic RAMs as neutron detectors by
the utilization of (n, alpha) capture reactions in a Li converter pla
ced on the top of the active area of the memory chip.
