Abstract
This paper describes a variable-structure control for dynamic braking resistors in a multimachine power system to improve the transient perf ormance and thus increase transfer capability. The simulation of a sys tem with 54 buses and 17 generators shows that the new control is very effective for this multimodal system. The control provides very good damping to the appearing oscillation modes and also increases effectiv ely the transient stability limit.
