Vi. Alekseenko et al., CRYSTALLIZATION EFFECT AFTER PRELIMINARY HEAT-TREATMENT IN MGO-AL2O3-SIO2 QUENCHED GLASS, Physica status solidi. a, Applied research, 144(2), 1994, pp. 271-275
The effect of preliminary heat treatment (PT) of a quenched glass in t
he vitrification temperature range on the course of subsequent non-cat
alyzed crystallization is studied using the X-ray and pycnometer densi
ty measurements for glassy stoichiometric cordierite powder. An increa
se of crystallized mu-cordierite quantity after PT is found. It is est
ablished that this effect is caused by the approximate to 20% lowering
of the activation energy of mu-phase formation due to the structural
relaxation process taking place in quenched glass during PT. A qualita
tive model to explain the effect observed as a result of an interactio
n between defects in the initial quenched glass is proposed.
