Composites are drawing more and more attention as preferred materials
for teeth restoration. The success of teeth restoration has been gener
ally limited by the Composite Resin-Dentin bond strength. A testing de
vice has been developped to allow a satisfactory testing mehod for eva
luating bonding strength in tension and shear, which led to reproducib
le results. A comparaison between different bond systems has shown no
significant difference in the tensile and the shear strength as well a
s in the fracture behavior. Moreover, results showed difference betwee
n tensile and shear strength, when considering one same bond system. F
ailure mode examination turned out to be, either cohesive (composite r
upture), or adhesive (interface rupture) or both ( mixed rupture).
