Abstract
It is usually accepted that the phenomenon of thick filament shortenin g contradicts the sliding filament theory and cross-bridge mechanism o f force generation. However, some peculiarity of experimental data ind icate that thick filament shortening can be a corollary of the. intera ction of myosin cross-bridges with the actin filaments <<wrong>> polar ities in sarcomeres with the actin filaments double overlap formed in the results of the filament sliding.
