Abstract
Lasing of a chromium-doped forsterite crystal was obtained by pumping to a nontraditional absorption band. Experiments showed that the conve rsion efficiency of pump radiation reached 25%. When a selective cavit y was used, the generation wavelength could be tuned in the range 1170 - 1350 nm.
