Vl. Kalashnikov et al., SELF-MODE-LOCKING OF CW SOLID-STATE LASER S USING A NONLINEAR ANTIRESONANCE RING, Kvantovaa elektronika, 21(1), 1994, pp. 37-42
A study was made of the self-mode-locking of cw solid-state lasers acc
omplished by a modulator in the form of an anti-resonance ring contain
ing a bulk self-phase-modulation element. The modulator had a high ini
tial transmission and could effectively distinguish between radiation
fluctuations. The characteristics of a self-consistent ultrashort puls
e calculated from an approximate analytical solution of the problem of
cw generation were investigated as a function of the modulator parame
ters. The laser system parameters were found to conform with the regio
ns of effective self-mode-locking that were established by numerical s
imulation of the generation of stable trains of ultrashort pulses from
the noise radiation of the continuously pumped active medium.
