Abstract
An edge-coupled InGaAs photodiode has been used to produce a novel typ e of millimetre-wave radio transmitter, for which zero electrical powe r is required. This radio transmitter operates purely from a fibre inp ut as part of a radio-fibre system, and is capable of generating an ou tput power of -20dBm at a frequency of 30 GHz.
