Abstract
A novel method for the determination of ultrasonic attenuation in the surface layer of materials is proposed through an ultrasonic spectrosc opic technique. The method is based on absolute measurement of the ref lection coefficient of the materials and spectral behaviour analysis. An experiment is demonstrated for annealed carbon steel.
