Capillary instability and breakup of two layers axisymmetric jets (com
pound jets) are studied. The process of jet disintegration is simulate
d numerically, solving the unsteady Navier-Stokes equations by the fin
ite element method. The influence of the flow parameters on drop forma
tion and breakup pattern is analyzed. The conclusions made are in very
good agreement with the predictions of the linear stability analysis
and the experimental data available.
