Abstract
We present symmetry analysis, Raman and Brillouin scattering selection rules and Raman spectra of (GaAs)m/(AlAs)n superlattices grown on GaA s substrates of (211) orientation. Using lattice dynamical calculation s based on the shell model, an assignment of the observed confined opt ical and folded acoustic modes has been performed. The angular dispers ion and polarization mixing of the superlattice modes are studied in d etail. We demonstrate that the assignment of an effective wave vector q to the confined modes in [211] superlattices is similar to that perf ormed earlier for the [311] case.
