This 'profile' gives the history and development of powder metallurgy
and particulate materials education at the School of Mines, Madrid. Th
ese activities began in 1962 and today the school offers formal progra
ms in P/M at the graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. The four
thrust areas of research in P/M are: sintered steels, high speed stee
ls, stainless steels, and ceramic materials. External connections have
been established within Europe, and with North and South America.
