The changes in concentrations of copper, zinc, manganese, iron, magnes
ium, sodium and potassium were measured in the corpus luteum (CL) of b
uffalo during its formation, maturation and regression. Maximum concen
trations of copper, zinc, iron, manganese and magnesium were observed
in CL haemorrhagicum. Sodium and potassium showed a maxima in mature C
L. The concentrations of mineral elements decreased significantly (P<0
.05) in regressing corpora lutea. The functional significance of these
elements as related to luteal physiology has been discussed.
