Zoometrical measurement was taken in yaks reared at high altitudes (3
000-6 000 m above mean sea level) in the districts of West Kameng and
Tawang of Arunachal Pradesh. Based on the visual appearance, the yaks
have been categorized into common type Bisonian Type and Bare back typ
e each having an approximate population of 56.2. 29.8 and 14,0% respec
tively. Some of the animals that cannot be categorized in any group ca
n be called as nondescript. The shape and size of the hems, the polled
or the presence of horn could not be a bearing factor in nomenclaturi
ng the 3 types. It is likely the types have a bearing on the productiv
e utility of yaks, viz. milk, drought, wool and meat,
