Abstract
Zoometrical measurement was taken in yaks reared at high altitudes (3 000-6 000 m above mean sea level) in the districts of West Kameng and Tawang of Arunachal Pradesh. Based on the visual appearance, the yaks have been categorized into common type Bisonian Type and Bare back typ e each having an approximate population of 56.2. 29.8 and 14,0% respec tively. Some of the animals that cannot be categorized in any group ca n be called as nondescript. The shape and size of the hems, the polled or the presence of horn could not be a bearing factor in nomenclaturi ng the 3 types. It is likely the types have a bearing on the productiv e utility of yaks, viz. milk, drought, wool and meat,
