VARIATIONS OF THE NATURAL EMISSION OF THE OCEAN IN THE 8 AND 18 CM BANDS

Variations of the thermal emission of the ocean are studied using airc raft radiometers in the 8 and 18 cm bands. A two-channel regression an alysis of the dependence of the brightness contrasts is carried out an d it is shown that the regression coefficient is sensitive to the stat e of the ocean surface. Experimental data is analysed theoretically ba sed on two different approaches, namely a diffraction approach and a p henomenological (quasi-static) approach. The regression is modelled nu merically for various conditions of disturbance.
