Abstract
The paper gives the results of the first systematic limnological exper iment on Lake Onega in Summer 1989. It is shown that combined satellit e (Kosmos 1870, SAR), aircraft (visual observations and IR radiometry) and ship surveys (visual observations, recording of the temperature a nd optical characteristics of the water) enable us to establish the pr esence of vast areas of phytoplankton in the lake.
