Sv. Burenkov et al., DETERMINATION OF THE RELATIVE POSITION OF A SOURCE AND RECEIVER BY TIME-DELAY SPECTROMETRY, Measurement techniques, 37(1), 1994, pp. 81-84
A new method of measuring the transit time of acoustic signals is disc
ussed; it is based on the use of wideband swept-frequency signals and
exhibits high accuracy, noise immunity, and simple hardward implementa
tion. The accuracy of the results can be increased several orders of m
agnitude according to a narrowband deconvolution procedure developed b
y the authors. The gain can be close to the channel signal-to-noise ra
tio, as is indeed confirmed by the results of numerical calculations a
nd full-scale experiments.
