The collective interaction of N identical two-level atoms with a quant
um electromagnetic field in a perfect cavity is considered. It is show
n that the initial atomic state coherence introduces some coherent fea
tures in the dynamics of the initially thermal field. Namely, it leads
to well separated thermal revivals and causes a narrowing of the phot
on distribution.
