Abstract
Polycrystalline bismuth with particles from a few to five hundred micr ometres in size have been studied by using positron lifetime spectrosc opy. Only one kind of defect, associated with the free volume in the i nterfaces, was found in the samples. The variation in the lifetimes wi th particle size has been discussed.
