Rd. Ray et Bv. Sanchez, IMPROVED SMOOTHING OF AN ALTIMETRIC OCEAN-TIDE MODEL WITH GLOBAL PROUDMAN FUNCTIONS, Geophysical journal international, 118(3), 1994, pp. 788-794
A set of global Proudman functions, computed on a 2 degrees finite-dif
ference grid, is used to smooth raw tidal estimates previously derived
by Cartwright and Ray from a two-year analysis of Geosat altimeter da
ta. The least-squares problem provides an interesting application of r
idge regression and Hansen's L-curve analysis. The final smoothed maps
are found to agree more closely to a set of 80 'ground-truth' constan
ts than did the original tidal models.
