Abstract
Fas antigen mRNA induction in the brain was examined using a transient global cerebral ischemia model in BALB/C mice. Northern blot analysis revealed little Fas antigen mRNA expression in the brains of sham-ope rated mice. A marked induction of Fas mRNA expression was detected in the brains of mice 6 h after 30 min of cerebral ischemia. These result s suggest a possible apoptotic mechanism for cell death, mediated by t he Fas antigen, in postischemic brain.
