P. Dodds, WANDERING - A SHORT REPORT ON COPING STRATEGIES ADOPTED BY INFORMAL CARERS, International journal of geriatric psychiatry, 9(9), 1994, pp. 751-756
Wandering is common in people with dementia. It is one of the behaviou
rs that unpaid carers who are relatives find most difficult to cope wi
th when caring for people with dementia at home. Six carers were inter
viewed using a descriptive typology of wandering devised by HoPe and F
airburn (1990). The aim of the study was to establish the types of wan
dering behaviour carers experienced, how they dealt with this behaviou
r and what they did to modify it.
