R. Wommelsdorff et al., INFLUENCE OF MINERAL-OIL PLASTICIZER-CHAR ACTERIZATION, FILLER AND POLYMER ON PAH CONCENTRATION IN VULCANIZATION FUMES, Kautschuk und Gummi, Kunststoffe, 47(8), 1994, pp. 549-555
In the fume resulting from the vulcanization of rubber products are tr
ace quantities of carcinogenic aromatic polycyclic hydrocarbons (PAH).
The results of the experiments presented here show that a reduction o
f the PAH content of vulcanization fume is achieved through the use of
mineral oil with low PAH levels. The compound ingredients also influe
nce PAH emission. Both the fillers of reinforcing agents and the polym
er matrix dependent upon their aromaticity, can reduce PAH emission. T
his illustrates that methods with the legally required minimisation of
carcinogens in the work place can be achieved.
