The paper studies the effect of the structural parameters of potato cr
ops on the position of the maximum gradient of the reflection curve in
the range 0.68-0.75 microns using mathematical modelling and data fro
m field experiments. It is shown that the angle of observation and the
position of the maximum gradient of the reflection curve are related
for thin crops. This fact is used to minimise the effect of structural
parameters of the crop on the position of the maximum gradient of the
reflection curve when determining the crop chlorophyll concentration.
It is found that as the crop chlorophyll concentration increases, the
sensitivity of the position of the maximum gradient of the reflection
curve to the crop structure decreases.
