Abstract
Quasiparticle band-structure calculations for semiconductors treat the exchange-correlation self-energy operator within the GW approximation . in this paper, a detailed study of the energy dependence of the self -energy due to dynamical screening is presented. Spectral functions fo r near-band-gap excitations in silicon and diamond are calculated and the quasiparticle peak and satellite structures are discussed.
