Single photon ionization of C60 in 2,2-dimethylpropane (neopentane, NP
), 2,2,4,4-tetramethylpentane (TMP), 2,2-dimethylbutane (neohexane, DM
B), and 2,2,4-trimethylpentane (isooctane, iso-OCT), and of C70 in TMP
was studied by photoconductivity measurement. Threshold energies of t
he photoconductivity were determined. From these results, the polariza
tion energies and the ionic radii of the cations were obtained by appl
ication of Born's formula. The ionic radii turned out to be smaller th
an the van der Waals radii of the molecules.
