The temperature profile for an N-component mixture of particles in a f
luid flowing through a heated tube has been evaluated using a numerica
l method for the fluid and an analytical solution for the particles. T
he results for the time-at-temperature of the particles depend on the
drift-flux parameters, which quantify the local slip. In particular, t
he more slip the better the heat transfer and the shorter the heat exc
hanger required for aseptic food processing. Two diagrams are given, w
hich cover all parameters of interest for laminar flow.
