S. Sarkar et al., MULTIMODE GENERATION OF CARBONATE TABULAR INTRACLAST DEPOSITS - UNNAMED PROTEROZOIC FORMATION, MAHARASHTRA, Journal of the Geological Society of India, 43(4), 1994, pp. 415-423
Breccia and pebbly massflow products are present in abundance in basin
slope deposits of an unnamed marine Proterozoic formation in Maharash
tra. Seven distinctive genetic modes have been identified and attribut
ed to slump, slide, spring sapping and evaporite dissolution. The clas
ts are tabular in form and intraclastic in origin. The observations su
ggest caution against the prevailing tendency to equate occurrence of
tabular intraclasts with shallow depositional regime. In order to asce
rtain their sedimentological significance, a clear understanding of th
eir genetic processes is thus warranted.
