It is shown that coherent interactions of protons (neutrons) of energy
approximately 1 GeV with a polarized nuclear target of length l resul
ts in the rotation of the spin of incident particles through the angle
sic = (10(-3) - 10(-4)l (cm). Experimental measurement of this angle
makes it possible to directly reconstruct the real part of the spin-de
pendent amplitudes of pn and pp forward scattering. It is proposed tha
t this effect be used for investigating resonance states in the interm
ediate energy range.
