The founders of transpersonal psychology explicitly advocated that def
initions of the field should be open to change as the field evolved. N
ew definitions continue to emerge, but many appear to be excessively t
heory-laden, i.e., committed to specific theoretical and metaphysical
presuppositions. This paper reviews some of these presuppositions and
then suggests possible definitions for transpersonal psychology and ot
her transpersonal fields.
