B. Willke et Kd. Vorlop, LONG-TERM OBSERVATION OF GEL-ENTRAPPED MICROBIAL-CELLS IN A MICROSCOPE REACTOR, Biotechnology techniques, 8(9), 1994, pp. 619-622
A method is described for the on-line observation of immobilized, grow
ing microorganisms in a microreactor mounted on a light microscope to
determine several physiological parameters such as cell size and colon
y size, growth rates, spatial and temporal distribution of cells which
are entrapped within transparent gels. The results can be used for mo
delling growth and diffusion behaviour in biocatalysts to optimize env
ironmental and industrial applications of immobilized cells.
