An anterior mediastinal mass producing extrinsic airway obstruction wa
s successfully managed by percutaneous needle aspiration, decompressin
g the mass and relieving the airway obstruction. This allowed safe ind
uction of general endotracheal anesthesia and excision of the mass by
a sternotomy approach.
