Abstract
Hydatid liver disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus is a serious p roblem in regions where the parasite is endemic. The treatment of choi ce is surgery, however, it is associated with recurrence rates of up t o 30%. Medical treatment with benzimidazole derivatives has limited su ccess. The treatment modalities for hydatid liver disease are reviewed in detail and are evaluated in terms of radical treatment.
