Preservative-treated slash pine posts were subjected to a burning test
to determine the effects of treatment and fuel load on their fire res
istance. Posts treated with chromated copper arsenate (CCA-C), CCA-wax
, and CCA-oil smoldered to destruction; however, those treated with CC
A-oil were less likely to be destroyed after 2 hours of smoldering. Cr
eosote-treated posts and untreated controls did not smolder to destruc
tion. A high fuel load decreased the fire resistance of posts.
