Malignant fibrous histocytoma (MFH) is a tumor which most often develo
ps in the soft tissues of the extremities and retroperitoneum, but ver
y rarely originates in the mediastinum. We report herein the case of a
63-year-old man who underwent surgical resection of a rapidly growing
tumor in the right thoracic cavity which was diagnosed as an MFH of m
ediastinal origin on the basis of histological findings, the definitiv
e diagnosis ultimately being made by specific immunostaining.
