Abstract
An engineering field study of the 30 September Marathwada earthquake i s reported. The study covered Osmanabad, Latur, Sholapur, Bijapur, Gul barga and Bidar districts. The level of ground acceleration was estima ted based on tilting of free standing objects. The study shows that th e epicentral intensity has been VIII on the UNESCO scale. The horizont al ground acceleration near the epicentre has been estimated to be abo ut 0.2 g.
