Abstract
It is shown that the backbending phenomenon, known for more than 20 ye ars in atomic nuclei spectroscopy at high angular momenta, is present in molecules as well. This phenomenon, due to the non-crossing of pote ntial curves at large rotational velocities, can be described in terms of a perturbation model involving q-deformed rotors.
